Stephen Ireland began turning out for the team during preseason this season through good mate and current Wythenshawe teammate Blake Norton, and the ex- Republic of Ireland midfielder then invited additional former professionals, who all play in a weekly small-sided match, to join in.

Ex- Senegal striker Niasse, who netted 12 scores in sixty-five Premier League matches for the Toffees and still attends their matches at Goodison Park, also made his first appearance versus the opposition - who are based in the city and use an Everton training kit as their uniform.

"My mate Stephen said 'join and play, it's good fun'," commented the striker.

"After that he told me we were facing a team from Liverpool and the shock I had when I noticed them wearing Everton shirts - I thought this is strange for me!

"Those spectators who turn up and see are happy and to make a moment if they watch us competing there and to pose us queries - it's more like the joy of us getting somewhere we can enjoy football, with structure of course."

"That's a little different but then, I love running and just move inside - I'm not staying back that much," he added.

"I tell my defender 'I'm not hanging back' and that I'm just going to keep running.

"That running is what I'm after. It's good fun."

Along with Cisse's six scores on debut, Ireland has netted eight in three games for Wythenshawe, while George Boyd hit 5 on his first match and Joleon Lescott, a centre-half by trade, notched a triple in one game up front.

Wythenshawe are top of the Top Division with three victories from three and a GD of plus nineteen.
